6V Generator Rebuild

Has anybody used the generator rebuild kit sold on this site? I need to get mine back up and running but have not had the best luck with electrical parts for my 860 lately.

Thanks on advance.

Rebuilding depends mostly on the condition of the field windings...

They're OLD, and if brittle, lost all the 'pliability', insulation breakdown,
and generally destroyed by the heat, it's not feasible to rebuild.

You'll know as soon as you see them !

I plan on pulling it off and taking it apart tonight after work. Right now I think the bearing needs replaced because it is starting to stick after warming up and making the belt slip. Thanks for the info.

Not too hard to replace the bearing and the bushing. Then it's just brushes. That's about all you can do. Like LB said, if the wires/coils are good then it should serve.

The windings look good but the bushing came out in pieces when I separated the housing. The shaft had a lot of play and the brush wear shows it. I will order the rebuild kit and get a pulley puller.

Thanks,
Thad

With the bushing so worn, it would allow the armature to scrape
against the outside case....hence your 'sticking.......

New bearings should do it, but be VERY gentle with the old windings.

You probably won't need a puller,
getting the nut off should slacken the pulley.....

Lettuce know :)
