8n hydraulic problems

I"m having trouble with my "52 8n hydraulics. With my mower attached, the lift won"t pick up. Without any weight it would go up and down great but dropped immediately after turning pto off. I drained the fluid and replaced with new GL-1 90 weight. I also replaced the pressure relief valve while I had it drained. The old fluid was fairly watery. Now the lift goes up and down great without weight and holds when pot is turned off. If I stand behind it, I can usually hold the arms down with the lift in the up position. Occasionally it acts as if the lift is working and pushes up over my efforts to hold down.

I am guessing that when I hook my cutter up, it will not lift the weight.

What should my next swing at this be? Replace the piston with NAA o ring style or something else. Thanks for the help.

Take the round cover where the pto handle goes through off. With the tractor running, pto engaged and the lift in the up position look in there with a flash light. You'll likely see Lots of oil dripping down from above.
If so your lift piston seals are blown and need to be replaced.
You replace the seals And piston with the NAA style.
Pretty easy job except the lift cover is heavy and unwieldly to lift by yourself.
It helps to have the I&T FO4 manual so you can read how to disconnect the lift linkage which has to be disconnected through that round hole before you remove the top cover.
This site sells the kit with seals and top cover gasket and piston.
Not expensive.
I would at least replace the cam follower pin under the cover too.
fO4 explains how to do that too.
