Air Deflectors. Why are these different?

These little pieces of sheet metal fit on the right front corner of the engine.
I assume they direct the air flow from the fan somehow.
I think all of the 3 cyl engines have them - both gas and diesel.
I have two types here. I think the curved one is an early one, the flat one is later. Not positive on that though.
What was the purpose of these and why and when did they change them?
Not a big deal. Just one of those little differences you notice/wonder about when messing with these old Fords.

The curved with dent used with inline pump, Oh wait my 4500 TLB has it and it is rotary pump. Proably went to flat one in 71-72.

I think the curved one is the later one. Pretty sure that's what the one on my 4600 is like. Of course, now I'll have to go check them all, just to see. But not until tomorrow. Pretty sure they're on 4-cylinder models as well.

The flat one is obviously less expensive to manufacture. I expect the change is a running change to reduce costs.

4600 and 7000 have curved ones... so curved shows up on both inline and rotary pump models, and late thousands and x600's. 7600, Luke's 4000, and TW35 don't have one. (Luke's could have been lost during the engine swaps by the PO)
Looked through my pictures on photobucket. The ones with the injection pump/distributor area visible all had either a curved one or none. I didn't find any 6-cylinder models with them. One early '68 (louvered hood) 5000, two 5200's, and a late 3000 with curved ones.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I looked at several photos of tractors I've had but didn't have many where you could see that deflector.
That burned 3600 I fixed up had the curved style so maybe it was for the later models.
