Grill variations for x00 and x01 series

Need a little schooling from y'all. I have a '58 641 that is about half way done with a full restoration. In the next two to three weeks, I hope to get working on the sheetmetal. Question is concerning what is the correct grille for it.

I have a Jubilee grill right now for it, and it has the oval-shaped slot down low that a hand crank could pass through. I know it will fit, but would that be the right one for a 641? I have seen some with a round thru-hole at that spot also, instead of the oval. Scouring the internet, and the archives here, I can't seem to tell which is the right one for the machine. Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Kevin

My original 1957 dated 601/801 Owner's Manual has a photo of a 601 with a long oval shaped hole at the bottom of the grille.

Here is my 58 641.
I believe its the original grill, except for the ford tag the PO added.
And wrong color paint.
Arrrgghh site won't let me do picts!

Thanks Texas, I like the sound of that.

Redruff, does yours have the oval or round hole?

Thanks,
Kevin

(quoted from post at 15:58:38 07/06/14) The grille with the oval hole at the bottom is the correct one
for a 641. The Jubilee grille has the hole at the bottom.

Great. This is good news. I actually have the correct one. Somebody must have swapped it on the Jubilee I got my tin from (although it looked really, really, original to the Jube)

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin , All 53 and 54 NAA's have just a hole in the grille for the crank to pass through because the sheet metal sits in the lower position because it is the only position . On 54 to 57 800 series tractors the sheet metal sits in the higher position(mounting holes on the steering box and on the front bolster) because of the larger fuel tank which would put the crank hole lower in the grille . The 54 to 57 600 series , 57 to 62 601 series and 62 to 65 2000 series tractors all sit lower because of the smaller fuel tank which would be the same position as the NAA's which is the reason for the two different grilles . Thanks Tony

Tony,
That makes perfect sense - thanks for the explanation.

So, I head out back today to my sheetmetal pile. Haven't looked at it in a few months since I tore the machine down. Guess which grille I have.....the round hole one. So it was original Jubilee. Figures. I could have sworn it was the oval. Now it's time to find an oval hole one. You know I just couldn't put that round hole thing on there.....OCD I suppose. Gotta make it right.

Thanks again for all the help,
Kevin
