Oil pressure changed?

Still evaluating my 861 for keeping VS selling. Had checked the compression wet/dry (previous post) and had confirmed oil pressure (2 gauges) of just over 20 lbs on start at 1000 rpm. Moved the tractor to a spot out of the way a day later to pull and rebuild the carb. When I did I noticed that the oil pressure was higher...30-40 lbs. Confirmed with a second oil gauge.

How is that possible? Sludge?

As a reminder, PO had not run tractor for a year. I haven't changed the fluids yet. It's soaking with a little ATF in the cylinders while waiting on the carb kit.

OK, that's easy enough. I'll do that straight away.

I was wondering if there is an advantage in draining the oil and soak the engine in kerosene or something else?

...or an oil change with Risoline or some other additive and run awhile and change again?

I'll eventually be putting Rotella-T in her.

if this is flush oil.. i'd dump in a can of seafoam, and a quart of atf type f or dex / merc 3, run it till warm.. then pop a new filter on it for the heck of it and see what I had.

if oil pressure then is 40 at start and stays reasonable running and warm.. etc.

then I'd change her to a 15w40 and another new filter.

if this is a spin on filter you are using. don't get a purolater.. get a fram or motorcraft or napa...

i used some purolater filters earlier this year when I was in a time pinch.. and got 'different' oil pressure readoings than I was used to. filter change fixed all the issues oddly enough.. thus I won't use or reccomend purolator filters.

Interesting. Right now it has an OEM canister filter. Thought about changing to a spin on because my others are, but no rush there. Been using NAPA cuz I'm there anyway buying ignition stuff. Wonder if it is the same filter as the 134ci engines? I can look it up.

Thanks SG

all the red tigers using the canister used a napa 1004 element

that's like a.. ch6pl fram i think. but deffinately a 1004 napa

spin on napa is 1452 or 1515

Thanks Chris. That's what I found too.

And surprise...NAPA has the spin on adapter for only $12! It's NAPA #4124, if anyone is interested. That will allow the use of the 21515 spin on filter.
