My Dad is working on a neighbors Ford 801 gas. IIRC, one cylinder was poor compression, and it lacked power and was smoking. He took the head and valve cover off, and found one valve to be stuck. For what little extra work it is, he is thinking of replacing the rings too (has hone). For the moment, assume standard bore, which of the ring sets from this site would you guys buy. Link included.

I'd buy the set that matched the cylinder bore, engine fuel type, and quantity and size of the ring grooves in the pistons. Not sure how there could be any other answer, but I'll probably find out shortly.

I agree...except I seam to see for a standard bore, GAS 801, three options, all with "two 3/32 compression rings" and a "oil". PN 2C7673, EAF6149A, and FPN6149A!

So I guess, is one of the above three part numbers a better choice than the others?
Only time I've seen a tractor model have so many choices for rings WITHOUT there being any difference in the # or thickness!

Not sure I'd buy a ring set that didn't describe all the ring widths. That leaves you choosing between chrome & cast compression rings. Cast will seat quicker, chrome will last longer. Unless you are working this tractor hard & long, I'd strongly consider cast.
Assuming they fit the pistons & bores.

I too, prefer cast rings when doing a low budget 'freshen'
when just honing existing sleeves.

Like these

with old tractors this is with the pistons and calipers in my hand.
never know what you will find...even hole to hole...
