Ford mounted picker sheller

Looked at a Ford one row mounted picker/sheller yesterday, never had seen one before, looked like the picker with sheller unit on back and looked as if it would mount on a 860 I have. What are these worth and how rare are they. This one appeared to be complete but may need some work to get running, been outside for a while but not rusted out and still had pretty good blue paint on it, any thoughts appreciated, Thanks

Grandpa had a SEMI-MOUNT on his 860 and it handled it fine. It had a wheel on the side to help with the weight and stability ..... as a kid I worked on a farm that had a MOUNTED picker on a 860 and it made it squirrely, only way to steer it was with the brakes....

I have a one row mounted picker (no sheller) which I use on a 1963 4000 (4 cylinder). It handles the picker okay but you need to be careful, currently I do not have weights or fluid in the tires. This fall I will be adding a set of pie weights on the outside rear and some weight to the front end. With a full wagon load of corn the front gets light and you need to use the brake to aid turning.

I actually bought two of the pickers at auction, one for $50 and $200 for the other. Both were in fair/good shape. I have never seen a sheller unit in this area and can't comment on the price.

Been looking for one of those for awhile. They are not too plentiful. A guy from Louisburg KS has one restored on a 861, a very neat setup. The ford dealer my dad worked at here in California, Mo had one that they would custom shell with in the 60's. No one knows where it ended up but I'm still looking. Got a hold of a 2 row picker sheller this spring and hoping to use it this fall. If you get it I would love to see some pics of it.

Didn't even know they made a sheller unit fot that 1 row, actually there were never any pickers with shellers here in this part of Ohio. When shelling came around it was corn heads on combines.

They are not very common at all. I know of one a few hundred miles from me for sale. While the regular pickers could be mounted on an 8N,NAA,600 or 800 according to the manual it was recommended that the picker sheller only be mounted on an 800 and I can see why. I have two of the single row pickers and they weigh about 1700 pounds. Imagine what that thing weighs with the sheller unit and the tank mounted and full of corn. It might even make you nervous on an 800 series...lol. If the price was right I would jump on it as you may not find another one. The one I found for sale was $400.00 which is pretty much scrap price but I didnt go after it because of the distance.
