Ford 9600 8600

On my new to me Ford 9600 when I idle the tractor down to low rpm I hear a lot of gear noise and ticking noise from the transmission gears/Bell housing area. Especially when Dual power left button is pushed down. Then when I shut if off it sounds like a dropped a chain in the geartrain. All this only happens when things are warmed up. Is this normal? I went and drove a neighbors 8000 with dual power and it was very noisy too...same kind of noises. Thanks for your input.

If the noise goes away when you rev up the engine, I would not worry. If you still worry, drain the oil and look for metal. I doubt you'll find any, unless it's the end of a shift fork.

The transmission was just gone through at Ford New Holland Dealer. $2400 worth of gone through. It only has 20 minutes on it. That's why I was so worried. Maybe they just make that kinda rattle noise at an idle. Everything else works fine.
We put in new clutch. throwout bearing, rear main seal. pto brake band. resurfaced flywheel ect ect. The $2400 was inside the tranny only without shift forks or sliding couplings. I have high expectations this transmission will hold out.

Set the low idle up to about 950 rpms. I used to do that on the 7000 Fords hat had dual power. Just gear rattle.

Did they replace the clutch when they had it apart. My 6600 made a ratling noise at an idle before the rivets in the clutch disk gave up.

I believe the grinding noise is common for these tractors. My grandpas 8000 does it and my 9600 does it. This year the grinding noise got pretty bad on my 9600 so I turned the PTO on and then off, and it wouldnt shut off. The griding got even worse after I turned it on. I then turned it on and slammed the lever back hard to turn it off. I heard a clunk and the pto shut off and the grinding sound is gone now. My grandpas PTO will not shut off as well. Might be a PTO problem.
