Ford 4600 gage cluster question

For anyone that has a 4600 with the original gauge cluster then I have a question for you. On this gauge (temp portion) there is a small red mark that about 1/4 way across the gauge. When your tractor runs at normal operating temp does it stay near this mark?

Thanks

It depends on what thermostat is installed. If it's got a cooler stat it will run with the gauge at mid sweep. If it's got a 188 stat it will probably run a needle width or two off of the red line.

Well that's interesting. I put the 188 Tstat in and it ran well into the red. With original one it would almost touch the red. I opened the radiator cap and not boiling or anything so wasn't too hot. Then put in a new temp sending unit and now runs just barely past the little red mark on gauge. This would be first 1/4 part of gauge. I even bush hogged in very heavy grass with BH 286 low plus level to increase load. It pulled the engine down and increased heat from exhaust I think (I could feel more heat) but gage stayed steady whole time. Did this for about 3 minutes or so. Probably should try again and remove rad cap just to make sure temp is still ok I guess.
