Ford 4000 (1964) gasoline tank

That was kinda my real question. I build up enough pressure to expand the tank. Seems the cap would be vented (I'm a Farmall and MM guy) but I've read that Ford vented their tank and have seen caps advertised for the '64 4000 WITH VENTED TANK. Confused a little.

Curt,
The tank is NOT vented. The cap must be a vented cap.
At one point in time, Ford was giving new vented caps to all owners of these tractors. I got one during that give away. I also got a vented cap from IH for my Farmall H about that same time.

Run these tractors hard and the cap will whistle as the gas vents. BTDT.

At one point ford stop the giveaway but if you send in your serial # to IH you can still get the cap. There program never ended. What bugs me is that some people are getting the caps for free and selling them on ebay to people who don't know about the program.

At least some of the N's had vented tanks, but I've never run across any Ford newer than that with a vented tank. And having a vented cap on a vented tank wouldn't hurt anything.

I agree with the other guys.
All old gas tractors here, no matter what their factory configuration was,
get a vented cap or a modification to the existing cap to make it vented.
Then I know for sure......................
