4400 with 753 backhoe boom safety chain routing?

I have a question about my 753, how is the boom held up, the safety chain? Mine currently has a chain that wraps around the boom and the tail of the chain hooks into slots on the boom. I know this is not correct.

I suspect the chain runs from each down rigger and hooks into the slots on the boom. Anybody know if that is correct?

I have a manual for the 753 backhoe. It has a photo of transporting the backhoe with the chains going from each outrigger keyhole slot to the side of the boom where you would use a chain with hooks to connect to loops that are welded to the boom.

I have used this on mine and it works well.

Hope this helps

Thank you, That is what I suspected. I need to get the manual for the hoe. I have the tractor manual.

I will try to get a picture and post it, but my hoe has a set of slots already on the boom for the transport chain.

What your hoe [u:67e19083d2]should have[/u:67e19083d2] is two loops, like 1/2 section of pipe, welded to the boom on the side that faces you in the operators seat. Those have a slot to catch & hold the chain link. The chains, about 5 feet of 3/8" each, go from there to the keyhole slots in the outrigger feet, in the raised position.

I will note that NO HOOKs are required - just the plain chain in the correct size.

Anything involving "wrap around the boom" sounds like a bubba-fication to me. Some bubba (before I owned it) evidently decided that hooking through the 6" holes below the operators seat was a better idea, so those now have a nice big rip towards the hoe-side on my rig...
