hydraulic pressure

I replaced all hydraulic lines and re-sealed two lower arm hydraulic rams on my 1995 ford 545c tractor. According to other forums, I didn't need to bleed the lines. However, I slowly operated the lift and bucket, and after a while it seemed to work fine. But after lowering down and applying some pressure, the bucket began to go up when activating it down and then at a certain lift, it would go down. Can anyone help me fix this problem, or explain what it happening?

the only thing that makes sense if the rams direction are not responding correctly all the time, that the directional (spool) valve is in question.

I don"t believe bleeding will help, but won"t hurt. generally you can just crack open the fitting a turn or so to allow some fluid to escape while pressurizing that line. when the bubbles stop close it
