Transmission Fluid Levels

Where do you check the oil levels in the transmission/lift/differential on a 1974 Ford 4000? I can't seem to find a dipstick or any way of checking the fluid levels. Thanks

i have a 4600 .. not a 4000.. but the center housing check is very similar.. find your round pump cover.. now look around for a plug. likely inverted head style. may be covered over with grease.. mine was.

Ultradog or another member can help you more. without my manual here.. can't rememeber any other check plug locations.. or even if they would be the same for your 4000.

one of the other guys will fill in the gaps.

The differential (rear axle) and 3 point lift hydraulics is all 1 sump on that tractor, but separate from the transmission.

Transmission level check hole is on the right side of the transmission case near your right toe when you're sitting on the tractor. It should have a square headed pipe plug in it. Fill until the fluid just starts to drip out of the hole.

Rear end/hydraulics/differential sump level check is also on the rights side, back near your right heel when sitting on the tractor. It should also have a square headed pipe plug in it and you should also fill that sump until fluid just begins to drip out the level check hole.

All filling and level checking should be done with the tractor sitting on a flat surface.

Thanks for the information fellas. I completely overlooked those plugs, but with my eyes anymore I'm not surprised.
