I got sick of guessing, so when I was in town today I bought a cap, rotor condenser, and a new coil. Got it running. Drove it around the yard. It didn't want to idle real low and when you opened it up it would lope. I shut it off and now it won't turn over, like the engine is locked up. Won't even budge when you rock it back and forth in gear. WTF.

loping could be a fuel starvation issue..

pull plugs and make sure she is not hydro locked.

if not and she still feels locked.. pull starter..

It isn't hydrolocked. I 'll try the starter tomorrow. It wasn't running hot or anything. It's a nice little tractor otherwise. 1500 hrs on the original working tach. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to have some hydraulic questions if I get the rest of it up to snuff.

I took the starter off this morning. I turned the motor over with a bar, so not stuck. Put the starter back and away it went. So on to the next issue, what is used for fluid in the PS? It's some pink watery stuff in there now. Should it be ATF? The lift arms don't raise either. Do they need bleeding? Thanks again!

Ps will eat most any 10 to 30 w oil, att type f, dex merc, hydraulic fluids etc, hack, even real Ps fluid, most of us use the dame utf that we put in the hyds sump.

3pt can be bled from a plug on top back of pump,

I got the lift working by bleeding it. Thanks so much for the "sound" advice. I'm learning a lot about Fords this week, my uncle is working on a 971 as well!
