front pins and wheel berings on 800 series help

Thanking I should probably replace the front pins and wheel berings on 1957 800 I have tried to figure out what 800 it is best I can tell it is an 835 not sure the manual says the numbers will be on the left front side of trans housing but all I see is numbers on the right side trans housing in middle by the brake pedal 310835 under that there is z36 could be confused on that but anyway the front end has been worn out for years don't have a shop manual but thanking of getting one anybody know if the one at tsc is a good one and if anybody has done this before looking for a heads up on what kind of problems to expect to have thanks
 
If it is an 800 series, then the specific model number would be 820, 830, 840, 850 or 860. There was no such thing as a 835 in the 800 series.

Stand on the left side of the tractor and put your right hand on the clutch pedal and your left hand on the starter. The battery should be right in front of your face. Look down below the battery and you should see a flat spot on the transmission housing that faces up. The model and serial number should be stamped into that flat spot. They will not be raised up casting numbers like the 310835 that you found on the right side.

Front axle parts should be the same for all 800 series tractor, regardless of the specific model. The variations between the models had to do with which transmission, PTO and 3 point lift options it had, but they all had the same front axle assemblies.
 
you should NOT be looking for raised casting numbers. you should be looking for weak hand stamped numbers into the flat of the bellhousing aft of the starter.

that said. if it is an 800 series. gront end parts are the same.

he numbers are on the flat spot just after the starter that's all I see and the numbers are pretty easy to see they are recessed.have any of you done this before is it hard to do any special pullers or anything needed
 
Then 841 is the model number, which means that is an 801 series tractor, not an 800 series. The 801's were just a little later than the hundred series and had a few minor improvements. An 841 would have had the 172 ci engine, 4 speed transmission, non-live (trans driven) PTO and 3 point lift when it left the factory.

70636 would be the serial number, which would make it a 1959 841 tractor.

I believe the front axle for the 801 series is still pretty much the same as the 800 series. Here's a link to the parts page for the 841 front axle and steering:

I wander if there is a owners manual out there that I can download I have one for the 600/800 series I found (I have a 600series two) but since I have always thought it was a 800 I have gotten points set timing and valves for a 800 series two
 
Engine tune-up specs for the 172 ci gasoline engine is the same for all 1955-1964 tractors, so what's in your 800 series manual should be fine. Additional info in the 601/801 series manuals would be for the diesel engines and the Select-O-Speed transmissions, but all of the information for the gasoline engine and 4 speed transmission should be pretty much identical between the manuals.

you ask if we here have ever done front end work on our 50-70 year old tractors.... (chuckle)
 
The I&T Aftermarket Service Manuals that TSC sells are adequate for most things but there's some things that you would want the original Ford service manual for. Then there are things that the Ford manual will tell you how to do if you have special tools that are not readily available, but the I&T Manual gives you "alternate" procedures to do those things without the special tools, like adjust the 3 point lift control linkage. So most folks keep both on hand.
