Before we type a book of all the things it might be hack out all the old wiring and wire the alternator the way it was made to work using a 3 wire setup.

That's the diagram I used on my 640. Pulled out the rat's nest, rewired using solder and heat shrink wrapping around the connectors and it works great. No more guessing if it's going to work. Didn't take long either.

Thanks for the feed back and flowers RedDawg.

I see the drawings all over the web and many do not even know that I drew them to help people just like you.

Glad you're still posting, John. I used your comprehensive post in the archives to re-wire my 841 a couple of months ago. Runs great! Very helpful! I went front knowing next to nothing about how to wire a tractor to being able to do it all on my own thanks to you!

Wired the "automobile type" starter switch (start and on switches on the same key). Very pleased with it!

The only problem with wiring it like that is you eliminate the neutral safety switch...I would rather keep the safety switch, but that is just me.

radara4077 used a different wiring diagram that I have out there.

The diagram I have pictured here still uses the neutral safety switch.

Look again - it is still there.
