Anyone know what these are for?

There are 6 of these in the gasket set for the TW. Not sure what they're for. Pic isn't great, but they're little rubber caps with a hole in the top. Any ideas?

Fordman,

I don't know what those are for, but I do know of something similar from a long time ago. I "overhauled" a couple of old Ford inline 6 engines many years ago that included some similar items in the gasket kits.

They were installed on the valve stems and rode up and down with the valves as the engine ran. They served as little umbrellas that helped to divert the oil from the valve stems to reduce oil consumption.

I have no idea if that's what yours are for or not, but ones that I had looked similar to yours.

Bingo, Tom.

Umbrella seals were OEM equipment on OHV Chevrolet (and other) engines for decades.
