Hello Can anyone help me on what is the amount of oil That I need for the transmission and hydraulics for a Ford 340 1979 model it has the hi / lo 8 speed manual with live PTO or when I push the clutch in the pto stays running. I have the spin on hydro filter that is located under your left foot when seated on the tractor Thank you Brian

Your PTO is actually referred to as independent, not live. Live PTO uses a two stage clutch where you let the clutch out halfway to engage the PTO and all of the way out to engage the transmission.

I don't have the exact amounts for that model, but they should be close to the earlier 3 cylinder 4000 series, which are 13.8 quarts for the 8 speed transmission and 33.9 quarts for the rear end/hydraulics. They both should have level check holes with square headed pipe plugs in them on the right side of the case. I would think that you should be able fill them up to at least 90% of the numbers I provided before you would need to worry about oil coming out of the level check holes. On the rear end/hydraulics, if you also change the spin on filter, you should run it after filling it and re-check the level as the filter might hold another quart or so.
