To be brutally honest- I'm surprised anything electrical works on that tractor. I see rust and corrosion everywhere. If it were mine I'd be replacing all of the cables and wiring.
John in LA has posted numerous wiring diagrams on this forum. Maybe you can search the archives and find them. But the first thing you need to do is determine which solenoid you have- the one for a Ford car or the one for a Ford tractor. They look EXACTLY the same on the outside but they are different internally.

have to agree. I'd go for a total re-wire!

Ordered a new solenoid off this site today.

It has 4 posts also, so it might be nice to know more about the wire.

Have no idea what this solenoid is. All I know is that the smoke has not been let out.

No lights of any kind.

Battery is now charging.
No sign of where the wire came from.

Volt meter wasn't working, so that's what prompted me to start replacing the mess.

One reason it looks like it does, is that I washed that area with Zep commercial degreaser yesterday afternoon.

Anyway, still looking for the place the extra wire goes.
