i ordered one of these for my 600 series and thinking it no good, i ordered another one.
both wont do nothing.

i took the one off my 8n and it works. the mounting is different but can be mounted still.

ive tried both new ones on my 8n and it wont do nothing and ive switched sides on terminals. tried wiring everyway i know , no luck.

You got the wrong solenoids. You need a grounding activation type, rather than an energizing activation type.

thanks , so no way these will wire to work and I got them from here. lists for the 600.
only other one I think they list has 2 small terminals.

That should be the correct relay for your tractor.

If you want to check it out mount it with the battery hooked to the large post on the right ONLY.
With a test light see if you have power at the small post.
If yes ground this small post with a jumper wire and see if the relay clicks and you now have power at the large post on the left.
If yes it works.

If no at any point it is broken.
Just for fun if you do not have power at the small post with the battery hooked to the large post on the right......
Take a small jumper wire and jump from large post on right to small post.
Did the relay click now.
If so they sent you the wrong relay.

At least now you know if they sent you the wrong one or a broken one.

So now you know why I buy local.
Go to NAPA and ask for part# ECH ST53
Take 2 small pieces of wire with you if you want to test it before leaving the store.
Hook one small wire to the small post and the other to the large post on the right.
Now with a shelf battery in the store touch one wire to + and one wire to -. You should hear the relay click.

I just went through this on my 860. Tested 4 different solenoids with that part number and all 4 were positive activation instead of ground. Ordered an BWD S53 from the local auto parts store and it is correct. Unfortunately it is starting to latch on unless I tap on the bottom of it to get it to disengage. Based on what I have read online this seems to be a common problem with the quality of the S53 as of late.

Good Luck!

Thad, I know what u mean and it really is aggrevaiting. looks like the parts places would label these +. I would say a lot of folk has run into this problem

careful.
I just got a new 4 post solenoid using the part number off the old one, and it's wrong too. (Ford 311006)
Anyone know a source for ground activated types?
