I started installing my power steering kit on my 1967 3000 diesel this weekend and had a problem. When I started to mount the pump I found the gear is backwards from the gear on the tractor. Can I just turn the gear around on the pump? The instructions are basically a picture. Does anybody know where or who to contact with a problem with this kit? Does anybody know of a distributor in the US I could contact? I got this kit as part of a trade. It has 3000 on it and wasn't opened. Thanks.
 
Not to argue with you but yes it will be different. The teeth are slanted not straight. The ones on the pump are slanted the wrong way for the tractor gear but if it was reversed they would match up. Thanks.

If the slant were reversed they would line up, but reversing the gear will not reverse the slant. Hold the pump in your hand and take note of which way the gear teeth slant. Then turn the entire pump around in your hand so the gear is reversed and you'll see what we mean. Just want to point this out to you before you go through the trouble of trying to remove and reverse the gear.

This is the same as trying to thread a nut onto a bolt. it doesn't matter which side of the nut you put towards the bolt, it will still spin on in the same direction.
 
What do you have to lose, take the gear off and see if it will mesh with the gears in the tractor. If it does then okay. Otherwise you might have to find the gear that would fit or another pump.
 
Don't know for sure about that kit, but the drive gear for a factory pump has a tapered bore - it can't be turned around.
Did you try it, and it won't fit, or does it just -look- like it won't fit? Sometimes, things that dont' look right DO work.
