I am looking for a Ford A64 wheel Loader Engine

I am looking for information on what type engine is in a Ford A64 wheel loader. The tag on ours is not legible and has a cracked block, so it needs replacing. Titan Machinery wanted almost $10,000, not going to happen at that price.

The A64 used a naturally aspirated 401 c.i. 6-
cylinder, like many Ford tractors. (8700 or TW10
would be about the same age) BUT, I can't say for
sure it's identical. There may be differences like
oil pan, oil pump location, water pump, etc.

Charlevoix wheel loaders used BSD tractor engines with the exception that they had an aluminum industrial sump pan instead of the tractor engine's normal cast iron structural pan. The A64 used the naturally aspirated 401 as found in the 8000/8600/8700/TW10.
Here is where it gets tricky.... At some point in time those engines were changed from a cam driven oil pump in the center of the engine to a timing gear drive on the front. What you need to do is ID which one you have and find an engine that matches that because you need to use your pan and pickup tube on the new engine and the pans/pickups were specific to the loader application. Both early and late versions of the engine were used in the loaders and different pans were available for both as such... but considering you want to find a commonly available engine it's best to reuse what you can and find a block that fits.
