Ive not really looked into it, but the hood door, latch or something constantly rattles, really aggreviating.
must be common and probably a common fix ??

Dave404,
Yes VERY common!
There are rubber bumpers and springs that are to cushion the hood. They do not do a very good job. Me I always have a cardboard box laying around. I cut a square or rectangular piece off and put 2 or 3 pieces in, folding over until I get the right effect. One at the locks and one at the back by the gauges. I close the hood and side the 2 at the locks closer to the lock to "tighten" them up.
Farmer fix for sure, but it works for me.

find some foam rubber pipe insulation and make some new 'wedge into place' bumpers ofr that loose rattly tin

my jubilee does the same thing i take a piece of 1/2 inch rope and wind it around the "tray" that the hood sits in, it helps a lot

verify that the hood door latch springs are in place and in good condition. Replace if not.

Verify that the rubber hood/radiator tank bumpers are in place and in good condition. Replace if not.

I have the same problem with that fancy little mini hood that opens up on my TO-35 Fergerson.

All bumper stopper and parts are in place, just unbelievable that in 1957 it took approximately 14 parts to mae this small hood insert. What were Fergy engineers doing?

I think I finally solved the vibrating problem on the Fergy by doing the following. I cut two short pieces of fairly soft rubber coolant hose like heater hose, glued them to cross members under the small hood. As the hood comes down and locks in place these pieces of heater hose compress and keep tension on the hood, which stops the vibration.

This may not work on your Ford, but after years of listening to the vibrating hood or just opening one end of it to stop the noise I finally found a solution that worked.

I guess each of the 14 pieces of the hood closing parts are worn some after 56 years of use, so no amount of adjustment was going to stop the hood noise.

But I finally beat it after many years.
