Ford 3000 Instrument Cluster L.E.D. Lights

Hi i just replaced the instrument cluster and a lot of the bulbs are bad. I think i found replacement bulbs at an auto parts store but I also found L.E.D. equivalent bulbs (High output not the weaker ones) of the same output and same bulb number but only require a fraction of the voltage. Will this work as long as the bulb type is the same? The plus side is L.E.D. bulbs don't burnout with excessive heat and vibration like the originals and don't get hot. The L.E.D.s are a direct replacement bulb so no changes are necessary. I'm needing this as a working tractor right now so I'm not to interested in authenticity.
 
the easy ones will be op and what not. just switches. me .. personally.. wouldn't use on eon the gen... not sure how robust those leds they are using are towards emf noise. Might be just fine.. dunno.. could always parallel a 1n5408 with it... if in question... I just use the regualr lamps in my 3 cyl dashes..
 
I wasn't sure with it being a generator...I have messed with L.E.D.s before and they are pretty simplistic but the electrical environment is a little more rough. If all fails I guess I will just throw the old bulbs in and go.

You don't want to use LED's that are made for less voltage. You want LED's that are rated for the same voltage (12 volts) because the tractor is a 12 volt system, What LED's will generally get you is less current draw vs. an incandescent bulb at the same voltage for the same brightness of light.
 
only reason I mention it.. is we use led tail lamp assy at work on heavy trucks.. have tried them on heavy equipment too. seems they do not like the environment.. I seem to be repalcing led assy's more often than just celaning contacts in a bulb socket...

may be different for other people.. just my observation.
 
I don't really see a purpose to using a more expensive bulb on something that is somewhat more likely to fail... The difference in electrical load, overall, will be miniscule. Something you should consider tho... on the gen, those circuits generally require a specific draw to work correctly. I'm not positive about that with the generator system but if it has an alternator, it needs the value of the 194 bulb.
