fuel filter gasket

I just received 12 new fuel filters for an 801
diesel, but the gaskets don't fit. I think the
filters will work ok, but the new gaskets are 3/16"
bands like spin on oil filters have. When I try to
tighten the cap down, they squash out and don't
seal.I guess I'll try to make some gaskets.
What kind gasket material will stand up to diesel
fuel? Oh, and the O-ring in the middle as well.
Thanks!

Can't tell what you have without looking, but it is real easy to squeeze the correct gaskets out of place.

well, the old gaskets are about 1/16" thick and 1/2" wide, so even if they squirm a bit will
still seal. I should have mentioned one new gasket
will fit inside the filter bottom, but the other is
larger diameter, and won't fit either end.

Neither of my diesels came with a gasket anywhere near a half inch wide, and all of the subsequent filters have gaskets very nearly the same as what came with them. I have had one for about twelve years and the other for about ten. I just checked a filter on the shelf and the gaskets appear the same as always. These are all WIX filters.

ok. Here's a picture of a wix filter.

You can see the bottom gasket is at least 3/8"
wide. Top gasket doesn't show, but it needs to be
about the same. The filter on the tractor is a
Ford/New Holland 305931 with wide gaskets.
I found some gasket material at Autozone that
should stand up to diesel.
Hope this helps someone else trying to use Baldwin
filters.

well, I finally figured out what's going on.
Some vendors are selling CAV-type filters as replacements for Roosa Master filters. They are close, but not quite right.
I'm going to see if I can adapt a CAV filter assembly to to the 841D, since I have a bunch of filters that fit.

Yes that would explain it. I buy pretty much all my filters from my local independent auto parts store and they stock Wix, which of course is one of the most highly rared.
