I am in the middle of clutch replacement. Many thanks to all on this forum for advise to split the tractor. So here is the problem. The new clutch release bearing will slide on and off the carrier hub by hand. The shop manual says the bearing should be a press fit onto the carrier hub. The old release bearing was bad so perhaps it wore the OD of the carrier hub? Do I need a new carrier hub? Once I get this thing back together sure don't want a do-over anytime soon.
BTW, you can see score marks on the hub where the old release bearing was spinning on the hub.
Update: Close inspection reveals there is a ridge ay the back on the outside diameter of the hub, By hand I can snap the new release bearing onto the ridge and it stays in place. I must use a screw driver to pop it back off. Okay to use as-is?
Is it common practice to lube the inside diameter of the hub with some type of grease? If so what kind?
