Thanks to all who replied to my earlier post. Found the problem, #3 plunger is broken so looks like I'm going have to get pump rebuilt. The little I've ran it the amount of leakby on the plungers has raised the oil level in the cambox alot and the seal between the pump and motor must be bad too as I'm gaining 'oil' in the engine also. Not getting milky and rad. still is full so it's not water. Thanks Greg NE

I think you mean the plunger SPRING was broken, correct? If so, very easy and cheap fix.

As for the leakby, that is fairly normal on those older Simms pumps. The pump should have a vent on it to allow excess to spill out and not get into the engine. Sounds like the pump vent is plugged. If it were my pump, I'd clear the vent and change the oil a little more often, rather than spend $1K plus on a repair.

Bern, I am not sure what area you are from but 1000 bucks or more to rebuild the average simms seams a little high. Most that come through my shop run 750.00 or LESS. Thats with new springs, rollers, and gov. Assembly. Call around and price shop. Dont let them bend you over. If you are unable to find someone to treat you fair give me a call. I cut a little slack on anyone who calls from this site. Al,, 231/757/0064
