Where to find decent prices on a filter for Ford 735 loader

I had another post on this but I can't find it now.

I finally figured out the problem with my 420 tractors hydraulics, Thanks to Y'alls help.

I was checking the fluid level at the wrong place. It is too low. What was throwing me off was the fluid in the transmission is foaming. I've got to figure that out also.

I drained the hydraulics and removed the filter from the bottom of the loader frame. The filter needs replacing.

I checked on part # 290417 that one of you sent me a link on and it costs nearly $100. It doesn't look the same as the one that came out of mine but I can't find any numbers on it.

Is there an aftermarket filter that is cheaper?

Can you clean the old filter. Some were paper, others were a pourous material that you could clean. The filter is very rare and almost impossible to cross over.

No it can't be cleaned, it is a paper filter. It is also 13" X 3" and the High $ one is 9" X 3"??

It is still in pretty good shape, just clogged with gunk, it probably has never been changed.

My local NAPA store found the correct one for it. Half the price and it also has a new gasket with it! The $100 one didn't include the gasket, it was $15 extra for the gasket!

No, there wasn't a part number on the filter to cross reference. And the NH part number that I had isn't the correct one, it is only 9 inches long mine is 12 3/4.

They measured the filter and punched in the measurements on their computer. The only description it gave other than the dimensions, microns, and flow was that it was for a Ford "wheel tractor" hydraulic system.

I don't know the new part number is. They had to order it. They called and said it came in this morning and that it was exactly what I brought in for them to compare, right down to the instructions on the side for installation.

I haven't picked it up yet Brian, I'm sure it will have a part number on the box, if it is in a box, and/or I will get it from them. I will write it in my manual for future reference!

I depend on my local NAPA guy's for a lot of stuff at work and home, they know me so well that that recognize my voice when I say hello on the phone!

The parts site shows two different bottom plate assemblies with two different filter elements for that loader model.

It shows the 9" x 3" filter as being for the "prior" bottom plate and has part number PA290417.

The other one is listed as 12.68" long with 0.47" pilot hole. That one comes with the gasket. The original part number for that one was 7702218, which has been superseded by part number 86546604, both of which cross to Wix part number 51590, which should be NAPA part number 1590.

messicks.com has it listed by the newer Ford/New Holland part number, 86546604, for $38.30, and that includes the gasket.

Can you retrofit the later filter on an earlier tractor? From the parts catalog it looks like the setup is fairly similar though the part numbers for the relief valve parts are all different.

My searches have never come up with anything cheaper than that.
