I have a 1958 Ford 660 tractor with a problem of slow hydraulics on the front end loader. The bucket is really slow raising and leaks down as well will not hold the load up. When I first bought the tractor I was a little slow, but has gotten steadily worse over the last few years.
It does not leak any fluids out onto the ground though. so the leak is internal. It has only 1 hose per cylinder so it is power up and gravity down, What do you guys think is the problem? I'm thinking the control valve is leaking both loosing hydraulic pressure making it slow and the leak down. Could it be the pump? The pump is mounted on the end of the front crank shaft. So I would say this is an aftermarket loader. The 3 point is also somewhat slow, but not like the loader. What should I do first?

First off, don't be so hard on yourself - We all slow down as we get older :)

Conventional hydraulics wisdom indicates your slow response is caused by low output from the pump. A pressure test at one of the cylinders will confirm this.

Also, the Ford made Loaders of that time period used front mounted hydraulic pumps, as the pump for the 3 point hydraulics did not produce enough flow to run a loader at a reasonable speed, so it could be an aftermarket loader, but it is just as likely that it is a Ford.

There should be an open port on the opposite end of the cylinder. Check if there"s a plug in this port. If so, remove the plug and see if the piston seals are leaking.

device and browser fine.

you wouldn't happen to be on modern view would you? if you are.. items you quote DO NOT show up in classic view.

Ahhh.. that explains it. I'm on modern view. What I was saying was that in the original post he said that the loader pump was run off of the crank shaft at the front of the tractor.

Amen to that!!! I'm a lot slower then I used to be. My po ol achin back. LOL Glad to see you still have your whit Ol Dollar Bill. Sad to say but I'm older then the tractor so we are both slow now.

OK question getting back on topic, what will cause the bucket to leak down with out leaking any fluid out on the ground? I'm thinking the control valve is bad.
