I have a good Bud that needs a good tractor. He has a Gray market compact that he can no longer find parts for. It has a loader and he has cracked the bell housing and broke a front spinal he has gave it ell for 14 years. I have let him use my 3000 to plow his fields he plants deer corn in and he fell in luv with it. It must have PS and a hi/low trans.... I value y'alls opinion this is what I have found what is a good deal are what would you go look at.... I am located in the center of NC....

My first choice would be the 3600 diesel and second choice would be the 3910. I only went in that order because of the price difference. Both 3000s have aftermarket power steering and the 4400 has a heavier duty front end but it has a gas engine. I'm sure there will be other opinions but these are mine.

I did not notice the aftermarket P/S thanks... The 3910 owner dropped to $8K by email... Before I drive a few hundred miles I will do my offering before I make the drive...

As much as I like the looks of them, the Hi/Low transmission
requirement rules out the 8x1. I didn't see an aux in it.

I'm always leery of tractors with new paint also.
Especially when they're listed by the same guy like
the 5000 and the 4000 are. Same phone number.
Tractor jockey trying to make a quick buck maybe?

It wouldn't keep me from looking, I'd just look closer.

I would call it the same way Mark and for the same reasons.
If Hobo's friend has the dough the 3910 would be my first choice.
It looks like there are a lot of aftermarket PS systems down there - the 4000 has it too.
You rarely see that here.

Both the 2810 and 3910 are the cream puff of these tractors. That being said it really depends on the overall condition of each tractor. 2810 has 34 pto power while the 3910 has 45. Both will run a 6ft hog no problem but the 3910 obviously will do it better. Both have wet brakes and a improved implement anti sway system thats quickly adjustable. They are just the newest version of a already amazing tractor. That being said they are not ideal for front end loader work due to a lighter weight / less durable front axle. Their advantage however is the tight turning ability they offer. I love these tractors but keep loader work for my Massey 4x4. If loader work is of most importance then a 4000, 4600, or 4610 is the choice. 4000's were produced from 65-74 but the 68-74 had some minor improvements. Then the 4600's went from 75-80. In 81 the 10 series started and ran through 90. The last few years of the 10 series was called a series II and offered increased flow for power steering, slightly better hydraulics, foot actuated throttle control, quick adjust 3 point anti-sway system, and soft pto engagement. What is the price range he wants to stay below?

Below is a sweet tractor or at least has the potential to be. I actually looked at it this week but didn't crank it so not totally sure how it runs and operates. The only problem with a SU is that around here they're pricey. I don't think its a 10,500 tractor but for 9500 its a deal provided it runs well. Also, as someone else mentioned I would be leery of a painted tractor. Only reason some of us say this is alot of people try to put lipstick on a pig so to speak. Not in all cases but can happen so watch out. So to wrap up I have listed prices I've seen for GOOD - VERY NICE tractors without loaders. This is for the SE United States. Of course prices can vary drastically and I've seen more while also less but this is some of the averages.

2810 $ 5500-8500
3910 $ 6500-9500
4610S $ 8000-11,000
4000 $ 4000-6500
4600 $ 4000-8000
3000 $ 3500-5500

Its a series II and looks to be pretty solid. Its missing the cover above the transmission but you can replace it pretty easily. Again I didn't start it up so there could be issues just not sure. It does have the original paint though it looks somewhat worn. I can tell because during these years Ford used a ugly orange primer. If you recall, automobiles had a issue too back then (paint chipping off in chunks) as they were forced to remove something (lead?) from the paints due to the EPA.

This is one that has potential and it cheaper. Its been painted but looks to be owned still by the original family. And comes at a good price too.

When you find one that looks solid let us know so we can help you out. Good luck!

I did my research then ask the folks I trust for information that's the best I can do at this point... I talked to his wife and explain why I would move up to a better newer tractor,,, she has put a limit of 5K for a tractor... I then went back and talked to him he wants my prized 8N (I have let him plow with it in the past)... If he takes it I am gonna buy me a newer better tractor :D I don't have a limiter any more... Their are times I miss my limiter when I have to make a decision for upgrades on the house... One that will say this is what I want this is what I am gonna get, get over it and pay the man...

I learned allot and if their are other issues point them out... I played on the net and looked at some New Holland tractors... I bid on a 3910 at a auction last fall I knew the reserve was 6K when I got to $5500 the bid stalled the auctioneer ask the owner if he would accept it the owner did... I thought it was mine BUT they started the bid up again and ask for $5600 and the guy that was butt'n heads with me bid 56  The bid stalled again at 56 The auctioneer ask me if I would go $50 more I walked up to him looked him dead in the eye and said so everyone could hear it " I brought it one damm time I am not gonna buy it again"... Their will be another...
