Switching to zenith Carb on Ford 3000

Decided to get my tractor out and was hoping to actually use it this spring. The previous season it was suffering from what seemed like lack of fuel. After checking all the fuel filters, and lines I decided to rebuild the holly (last season) after putting it back on it still had the same problem always had to pull the choke out and would die going up a hill... After taking the carb off and on several times I finally got so enraged I decided to sell one of my kidneys for a zenith Carb. My ford is a 1965 and is incredibly difficult to find the correct zenith Carb and is more expensive then the later model 3000"s which makes it even worse. Many sites will provide the wrong part number and there is a lot of misinformation as to if one of the zeniths for the 68 and above would work on it.

Anyway my question is the Zenith I bought (which is the correct part number for my tractor) came with a larger brass fitting screwed into the Carb with the mini fuel screen then what the holly had. However the fitting that was smaller that was on the holly screwed into the carb without issue (the inlet size on both of the carbs was the same) and connected to the fuel line. It almost seemed like the connector was wanting a larger fuel line connection then what is already on the tractor? Will this cause an issue? Do I need to get a bigger fuel line for it then the one that is already on it? Or will the existing fuel line be ok?

Thanks,

A photo would help.
Ken and I have put 4 of those Zeniths on now and always found them to be a direct bolt up.
I would say if you can get it hooked together and it doesn't leak you are good to go.
That is about a 1/4" fuel line which would handle (I'm guessing) about 2 quarts/minute.
Your tractor burns maybe 2 gallons/hour.

Thanks for the info Not sure why the brass fitting it came with was the next size up (fuel line size. One other question where should I get a rebuild kit for my carb. The zenith I got is the part number for the 65 / 68 series Ford 3000"s. And all of the website I have looked at have rebuild kits for the 68 and up. I don"t need a rebuild kit now as the carb is brand new but would be nice down the road. The part number is 13916 for the early 3000"s. I"m assuming zenith has the rebuild kits? I"m also having a hell of time trying to find the correct battery tray for it. Not found a single one online except for the later models. I"m thinking of modifying a later one to fit. It"s like they moved the air hose from the filter on the later model or something.

Thanks again for you help.

I don't know about the carb kit. Never looked for one.
As for the battery tray for a gasser, I don't know where you will find one of those either except used or new from CNH.
Diesel trays are readily available aftermarket.
Your 65 would be a one piece tray where the tray and bracket it swivels on are not seperable.
The new style tray can be removed from the bracket (#5 in the pic below) by removing the swivel pin (#11).
You should be able to find a used new style bracket & pin at a bone yard for not much money.
Then buy a new tray at CNH - $104?
I assume you know that gas and diesel trays will not interchange but the bracket #5 will.

We have a 65 3000 and also did the Zenith switch a number of years ago (and haven"t had a second of regret, even though it was expensive).

I haven"t had to rebuild our Zenith yet but I suspect that the 68 and later kits will fit the 65-early 68 Zeniths. I spent hours wading thru the CNH parts books before buying the Zenith and, as far as I can tell, the only difference in the carbs is the linkage (bellcrank, etc.), since the governors and governor-to-carb linkages were different for the older-/newer-year groups. Another clue was (at least at the time that we bought our carb), the carb numbers in the parts books differed only in the final letter or couple of letters. That"s not a sure-fire answer but it seemed to fit a pattern.

Please post back here if you find something different.

Hope this helps.
