tranmission or clutch

I have a 8000 ford ( not sure of year can't find serial number)and when we first got it the reverse only worded sometimes and when most times when putting it in reverse it would seem like it engaged on the shifter put sounded like the gears where grinding. After taking the top cover off you can visibly see the forks going in and out of gear. But always the same sound. Now it does not move in any gear forward or back. Now Before I take it apart is this a transmission or clutch problem.

Hello G.P.,
Welcome to the forum.

According to Tractor Data, your serial number should be on the top of your rear axle near the top link mount.

If you can push the clutch in and move (push) the tractor and then release the clutch and have it hold in gear, the clutch is working.

It sounds like a transmission problem to me. The
8/9000 and 86/9600 were well known to have shifting
problems, from either worn/sloppy or misadjusted
linkage or bent/broken shift forks.
