841D Starter

I got the tractor running today and it does okay. The starter seems a little slow on it. Is there a way to tell if it needs attention while it's on the tractor. The tractor just doesn't spin fast and I think it may be causing it to be a little harder to crank. Any ideas or suggestions ?

you can always pull it to see ift he shaft has any play and or brushes are worn / fields compromised.

first check all electrical connections grounds and cable ends. including relays and thermal start aid.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. With me, this is a learning experience. I'm new to the diesel world, and I like what I've come to know thus far.

Me too! I've used Ns on my small farm for 8 years (and am a regular over on the N Board), but had an opportunity to pick up a 961D last summer. I'm really excited to pull a plow with it this spring. There's a lot of new stuff to learn about that engine, mechanically.

Enjoy, and keep posting! :)
