Difference between 2000 3000

Okay comparing the 2000 to the 3000 what are the differences between the two of them. Just curious what makes them two different tractors. I know they have different carburetor jets but where do they get the additional 10 HP from.

Not much difference really. They are both 158 CI.
Aside from the possible difference in carb jetting the 3000 is governed about 150 rpm faster.
I don't think it is 10 hp difference. More like about 4 or 5.
On the early ones there were other differences aside from the engine. Lighter front axle, no flow control, round rear axles, no diff lock on the 2000. The later ones were so close to the 3000 that I've often wondered they continued to build both models.

On the gas models, it's different jetting in the carb plus the 3000 has a slightly higher max rpm rating.

On the diesels, the 3000 engine is actually slightly larger displacement than the 2000, 175 ci on the 3000 vs. 158 ci on the 2000.

I think all of the responses missed it: namely, a live PTo. While all of the 2K and 3K tractors had live hydraulics, only some of the 2K's had live PTO's. All 3K's had it. I own a '74 2K w/o live PTo. Correct me if I am wrong. I am not
offended (grin).

Tim, my reprint of an original owner's manual seems to be saying that live PTO was an option on both the 2000 and 3000 models with the transmissions that would allow it. Of course the S-O-S models all had independent PTO. The 4 speed, which I think was theoretically available on the 3000 but I've only seen on 2000's was only available with non-live PTO, and the 6 and 8 speeds were available with live and non-live on both the 2000 and 3000 models. You are likely close to correct in that most of the 3000's out there with a 6 or 8 speed have live PTO and most 2000's don't, but I think that was more of a choice to keep the prices on the 2000's down at the rock bottom, not an actual limitation on the model.

Agreed.
I think both models could be had with any of the tranny options. My first 3000 was a very early model. It had the 4 speed, light front bolster and high tin which I don't think the 2000 ever had. I still have it, well, I still have the nose and right side hood from it.
