Ok I have reviewed the posts and still cant figure this out. The steering works good to the right but does not work when turning left. I have the sheet metal off of the front and can see the 1 hyd cyl but I cannot see an adjustment that I was told should be there. Any one have a picture that would show me where to adjust it. There is supposed to be an adjustment with a jam nut. Thanks for your help

There have been several posts on this forum in the past about the 65-67 5000's that turn right OK but the power drops off when turning left. Mine does it too. I'm pretty sure it was Bern who stated that this is due to wear in the pivot pins/linkage.

The service manual has a better picture, but I don't have one nearby, so I grabbed this out of the parts book. The adjusting screw is # 28, and there are two of them, directly opposite each other. By turning the steering wheel back and forth while watching the linkage, you should be able to figure out which one to adjust.

Note that these adjustment screws compensate for linkage wear. If an adjustment makes it better, it will eventually get worse again over time as the pins/linkage/bushings continue to wear.

Here is the instruction out of the service manual but instead of going by the clearences, you (Bern) have it right. Better to temporarily disconnect the link to the control valve then have someone hold the steering over each time you adjust the stop screws. Adjust them so the link just pushes the valve rod far enough without bottoming out the valve.

I now have PS in both directions. Will need to adjust more when I can get someone to turn the steering wheel for me. Thanks for the help. Leaking radiator is next.
