Tool for removing piston pump valve seats

I know there have been any number of posts regarding the removal of the valve seats from the older piston pumps. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever used(or even seen) one of the Ford tools for that purpose? It's mentioned in service manuals as NCA 600 G. and is usually pictured in use, with only a portion being visible. Just wondered if someone could explain a bit about how it works, in particular how does it actually grip the seat?

I used a nail of the appropriate size. Hooked the head on the seat and yanked out with a vise grip. Sorta a poor man's slide hammer.

I've got a couple of them. It's a simple sleeve/bushing puller. The end that goes in the seat is split 3 ways and has a ridge on the end. The opposite has a screwdriver slot. You insert the split end into the seat, then tighten the screw end to expand the bottom end. Once it's expanded and tight, you hold the square on the threaded center and run the nut down to pull the seat out.

Very nice, John. I bet an 'innovator' could make one from a expansion type concrete anchor bolt.

I used a small bolt, head was slightly smaller than seat, a washer, nut and a socket that was larger than seat. Made my own puller.
