4610 exhaust manifold

Hello all, I have an '84 4610 with the under foot and out the back
exhaust and I am going to change it to the normal location of going
up to the atmosphere instead of past my face then to the
atmosphere.

My question is can the exhaust manifold that I have now that exits
down be turned 180 degrees?

It appears that the bolt holes will line up again if I turn it around.
Has anybody done this?

Thanks for any help

No... the bolts might line up but the ports won't. I don't think the bolts will either when it comes right down to it...
IIRC, those manifolds are not all that expensive in the aftermarket.

thanks Rod, the local NH dealer quoted me $400+ for a new manifold which is just absurd.

I will definitely look aftermarket

Almost everything NH quotes is absurd. I was quoted $26 the other day for a dual power cover gasket. Not 15 minutes earlier I picked up case gaskets for a RoadRanger transmission and paid $2.10 each for them.

I do believe the exhaust manifold can be installed upside down, however the ports will not line up.

The hole in the hood of the 4610 that the exhaust goes through is is forward of the manifold, and the manifold is completely different from the one for the horizontal exhaust.

Look at the parts diagram and you'll see what I'm talking about. The pipe for the vertical system bolts to the manifold with 3 bolts and a gasket and the pipe has a pair of bends that brings it forward and up through the hole in the hood. The pipe for the horizontal system slips over the outlet tube of the manifold and is held in place with a muffler clamp.

This site (yesterdays tractors) has the vertical manifold for $44.82 and the vertical pipe with the proper mounting bracket built in for $65.85.
