#6 cylinder engine knock

On a ford 9700. I can't keep #6 cylinder valves adjusted right. Engine makes knocking noise on #6 only. Also exhaust manifold turning white on #6 cylinder. What could be the possible problem ?

Have you checked the injector? Faulty injectors can cause some strange noises and problems. If you loosen the fuel line nut at the injector does the noise change or go away? Could try swapping the injector to another cylinder to see if the problem moves with the injector.

I recently had an 8600 come in the shop that could not keep #6 valves set.It turned out to be the #6 exhaust lifter and cam lobe were falling apart.
