Hey guys, looking for a little more hp on my dads farm. There's
a sale coming up that has a 9700 on it. I know nothing about it
as its on a sale. What's the general opinion on these units?
What are the trouble spots I should look out for? Tractor will
mainly be used for plowing and discing on 80 acres. Thanks.

Good dependable 135 hp tractors. They are however,35 year old tractors. They were known to need PTO clutch packs and Dual power clutch packs rebuilt every 2 to 3 thousand hours of use.The 401 cid engine was bullet proof if the pump was left alone. Some had cavitation problems and leaked water into the crankcase. Around 3 thousand hours was usally the life of the hydraulic pump.I would not buy it unless I could hook to a heavy 3 point tillage implement and work it for a few hours. Only way to know if everything is good.

Good tractors for their era, very few weak spots. A few would be:

1) 6-bolt front wheel hubs
2) PTO clutch and drive shaft
3) Main clutch
4) Hydraulic pump if it has a lot of hours on it
