I need help. My ford tractor 5000 air pressure gauge back to zero after I on it after 10 minutes. What is the implication of this? I am really afraid of using my tractor maybe it will be more destroy when I operate it. Thank You!

first off.. make sure the oil is not dilluted with diesel fuel.. this will thin the oil and cause low pressure and damage the engine.

Run a hd diesel oil like delo delvac, or rotella 15w40......

Make sure the oil gauge is good and not a chinese junker.

Then.. if still low... worn main bearings, rod bearing and worn out oil pump. pull pan and replace/check all of the above and retest.

If the pressure is normal when first started and drops to near zero after running for a while, it might be that the return passages that the oil normally drips through to back to the sump are partially clogged. If you shut it off and wait just a couple of minutes and restart it while it's still warm does the pressure come back again for a little while? I'm not that familiar with the oil drain passages on that engine, but I had a similar problem with a Chrysler slant 6 in my Plymouth Duster years ago. You start it up and the pressure was fine and then after 10 minutes or so the oil pressure would drop. Added some ATF to the crankcase and ran it for 5 to 10 minutes at a time for a few days and it cleaned up enough gunk out of the return passages that the oil pressure was fine after that. I put another 25,000 miles on that car until the floorboards were rusted through and the engine was still running fine when I sold it to somebody who wanted the drive train for an even older Valiant.

First - Welcome to Yesterday's Tractor Ford Forum.

We all love our Ford Tractors here and do our best to help each other keep them running.

It is good that you stopped running the tractor as soon as you noticed the oil pressure gauge was at zero.

There are a few things that could cause the oil pressure gauge to do this. We will need to know more details about exactly what is happening to narrow it down.
Does the oil pressure come back after it sits?
Have you checked the oil level?
Does the oil look extra watery or gooey?

Here are a few possibilities off the top of my head.

- It could be a bad sending unit not sending the signal to the gauge, or wire got knocked off.
- It could be the gauge went bad.
- It could mean there is something wrong with the oil.
- Thinned out (fuel in it)
- Thickened up (old)
- Missing (leaks causing low oil level)

Lots to check out. Let us know more details and we will do our best to help you find the problem.

My 5000 doesn't have an oil pressure gauge- just a warning light. Has someone added a gauge to yours? Regardless of whether it's a light or a gauge you don't want to run the engine with indication of no oil pressure. Further investigation is required.
