Five speed manual popinging out of second gear

2fords

I have a ford 600 with a five speed gearbox
It pops out of second gear
I see two adjustments to the shifting fork and noticed the
coupling isn"t centered exactly .
I am thinking about changing one of theses to center the
coupling when in the neutral position . One adjusting point is
on the fork and the other closer to the detent device. Which
one is the best to adjust? Or is this not the issue?

There are no internal adjustments. If you can see (oil drained?)that the connector is not centered Check to see if the shifting fork to rail or the rail to gear fork is loose. The rails have holes and the set screws in the forks are threaded and pointed fit in the holes. There are three detents on the left side of the transmission case behind the three slotted indented screws. Remove the middle one and see that the plunger behind the spring is rounding in shape rather the a groove wore into it.
