could someone please tell me the type of oil to put in the hydraulics of a 53 ford jubilee. Some say 80-90 gear oil and others say aw46 hydraulic oil is just fine.(I happen to have a lot of tellus 46 hydraulic fluid) but I don't want to ruin anything. The manual calls for M-4864A ?????

UTF oil.. most any will work.. but if you want to get technical.. one meeting m2c134 spec.. which superceedes your 4864 spec.

that same utf can be used in the trans and rear end as well.

while iso 46 would work in the hyds.. many units have leaky seals between hyds and rear end.. and then you'd have gear oil thinned with jack oil.. not good.

and while some will tell you sae 80 oil is fine in the hyds. save that for pumps that are so worn that nothing else works.

Ditto what Sound says. The thick stuff is old spec and now days most use the UTF stuff

i use regular tractor hydraulic fluid in my jubilee, ive had the tractor for 20 years and drove it for 10 more before that, i did rebuild the piston and rings 2 years ago due to sheer time and wear, but ive never had any other problem with the hydraulics in that time

Thanks everyone.

I used utf which ended up to be the cheapest of the other fluids. Walmart was the cheapest but Home Hardware will match prices, and it does meet the m2c134 specs.
