Jubilee hydrulics revisited

After further research, I've come to the conclusion that I need to attach an implement to the tractor to exert a pull on the lift rocker to test the constant draft mode. Thanks to those who wrote to help. To all-- have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

irst, I understood you to say that draft worked & position did not? Second, it is NOT "pull" that is a factor in draft control, but rather "push".

JMOR: Thank you. As you can tell, my thinking is not conducive to hydraulic understanding and repairs. Going to reread the I&T manual to try to refresh my memory.

to help wrap your mind around the hyds.

imagine a box blade onthe 3pt and it engaging the ground. box is pushed back essentially.. making it roatate around the 3p lower pins and compresses the toplink..

Soundguy: Thanks. Great explanation for a dummy. However, I did hang a heavy back blade on the Jubilee 3 point and tried the hydraulics with the selector lever horizontal, constant draft mode, and when I raised the touch control lever, the lift arms moved up very slowly for about 1 inch!! Checked the main control spring and found it immovable, even with channel lock pliers!! Obviously the yoke has been tightened way too much. Going to adjust it to the proper tension and see if that helps.

Dr.Bert,
Your posts are similar to mine a few years ago when I was having the same issues.

Nothing worked as it should. I removed the top cover 4 times, rebuilt the round piston pump, replaced the gasket between the cylinder and top cover, replaced the cam follower, then make a larger 1/2 cam follower to account for all the wear, slop and flop in the control levers which were a rusty mess because moisture gets trapped under the lift cover. Ford's better idea, no vent in the sump.

The next time I remove the lift cover, I plan to totally rebuild all the moving parts of the control mechanism. The long spring part part of the draft control under the cover is bent. I could care less about the draft control working, don't plan to ever attach a plow to it. I'm more concerned that if I move the adjusting lever all the way up, the lift arms goes all the way up, the lift arms goes all the way down when I tell it to.

I bought a FOR SALE SIGN and put it in front of the tractor, so it knew if it didn't stop having problems, it would be finding a new home real soon.

If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn' have bought a Jubilee. I would have gotten a newer model with external hyd, live PTO and power steering. As it is I have twice the money in the Jubilee that I could ever expect to sell it for. So, I'll just have to keep it. Still have the For Sale sign for my tractor to look at.

Stay with it, learn how to remove the top cover and have fun. I rigged up an electric wench to lift my top cover with, rolled the tractor forward and lovered the cover on work bench.

hat draft control link may be bent in his too, George. Right symptoms.

George: Thank you, you helped me decide!!! I have decided to not worry about fixing the draft control because I know, like you, I will never use it!! When the hydraulics that do work begin to fail, then I will pull the top cover and correct any problems.
