vertical exhaust ford 900

I bought a vertical exhaust kit for my 900 and it came with an
extra clamp and a braket. Can anyone tell me were the bracket
is suppose to bolt to. I think its from tisco.

Sounds like one of those after market jobbys. You drill a hole towards the bottom of the hood and attach one end of the brace to the hood and the other end to the clamp on the exhaust pipe

For something more original you could go to New Holland (or Messick's) for part# 86534432 which is a steel elbow that has a flange welded to it that bolts onto the cylinder head. This then connects to the muffler outlet and clears the hood and provides the vertical direction. Then all you need is the vertical pipe, clamps, and rain cap. (The above part# was provided by showcrop in an earlier post about a similar subject.) This part costs about $65-$67 so be prepared. I don't think this site sells it but you should check.
In my case I needed to use a long bolt in the bottom hole and some washers behind the flange to get it to be exactly vertical. -Will

I think the elbow you are referring to only works on the 172 engine built after 1958 for the 8 and 901 series tractor with the bigger 1 5/8" exhaust pipe. I guess I am not aware of any 1 1/2" vertical exhaust built like the original

Austin, I have a vertical exhaust on my 960 and on my Jubilee.
The 960 has the muffler moved out from under the hood and
inserted into the vertical pipe.
The Jube has a one piece bent pipe that attaches to the muffler
in it's original position then curves out from under the hood to go up.
Both have a clamp and bracket that attaches where the pipe would
hook to the muffler in the original setup.
That bracket is attached back under the hood to the gas tank
mount and helps support the weight of the muffler and pipe.
Is that the bracket you're talking about?
If so, no need to put holes in your hood.
Can you post a picture of it? I can get pics of mine if needed.

Sorry, my mistake.
One question- The newer replacement manifolds accept either the larger or smaller elbows for the muffler inlet side. If that is true of all the manifolds then would it not be possible to use the larger cast elbow on the muffler inlet, the larger pipe muffler (both of which are readily available) and then the rest of the arrangement for the x01 I described above?
Probably replacing too many parts but might work unless there is something else about the x00 series I am forgetting about. -Will

Here's a parts diagram of the vert. exhaust kit showing the cast elbow(#8)...I pulled this off of the Partspring website under the 801 series, but I would think your 900 has the same upsized muffler outlet.

Nice looking 961, Will.

I have the same aftermarket manifold on my 55 860 and the same vertical exhaust elbow/bracket for my 961.

Thanks, Dean. I have a '62 4000 with a loader that has the same exhaust system. I know this works out with the x01 and aftermarket manifolds, but would it work with the original x00 manifold?
Did your 860 originally have a vertical exhaust? Did Ford offer a vertical exhaust for the x00 tractors? -Will

My 860 had an aftermarket vertical exhaust on it when I bought it but I converted it to horizontal shortly thereafter. I used it to mow and was routinely driving under tree limbs.

I believe that Ford offered the vertical exhaust for the 00 series but, I believe the cast elbow was used.

I see no reason why the large muffler elbow, muffler and remainder of the large exhaust could not be used with the original manifold whether 134 or 172 engine.

I have the large (horizontal) exhaust on my 64 4000 S-O-S and do not find the sound as pleasing as the sound of my 860 with small horizontal exhaust.

This first picture is of my "work in progress" 640.
The hood is off so I figured it would be easier to see the bracket.
For now, I just have the muffler wired to it where the clamp will go.

This second one is of my Jubilee so you can see the pipe.
The clamp on the left is one I added to an extra home made brace
to give it some added support since the tractor has a loader on it.
You can also see that someone in the past had a muffler clamp
bolted through the hood to hold it in a different location.

I couldn't get to the 960 to take a picture without climbing.
It's in the back of the pole barn hibernating for winter.
