Ford 841 distributor

Posted this previously. Found that the points cam has some play in it, possibly that's why I'm getting some backfire at times. Tried to pull the distributor out, won't move, so before I break something, I need to know if the set screws or bolts have to be loosened or removed. I don't think it has ever been out in 55 years, could be just rusted in. See pic to what I'm referring too.

There are two 5/16 bolts that go through a clamp that bolts to the block under the distributor. If they are out, (can't tell for sure buy the picture)It will come out. If it's been there a long time, could be difficult. Twist and pry. Do not remove the three allen headed bolts shown in the picture. The two bigger ones hold the oil pump in place

Those set screws go into the oil gallery. It gives them a way to get the sand out when casting the block.

If you have the distributor hold down off and can move the distributor back and forth the o-ring on the distributor shaft is stuck to the block.

Take a screwdriver and stick it under the distributor flange while rotating the distributor back and forth and prying up.

Thanks for the replies. Didn't think any of those bolts/screws had anything to do with the distributor, but ya just never know. I've got the clamps off. Tried to pry it out with a BFSD, maybe a BFH will loosen it :). North wind, colder than a well diggers you know what. Right after Turkey tommorow will give it a twist and pry. Probably rust welded in after 55 years. Thanks again.

Yep make sure the bolts are out then twist it till it frees up. If you have a pumper oil can and some ATF you might try putting some ATF around it yet tonight so tomorrow it may free up better
