Are134 172 Blocks The Same?

Ok. Other than the obvious bore difference can anybody tell me if a 134 and a 172 block are the same?

They have different casting numbers for sure. Some of the external dimensions are definitely the same as they will mate up to the same transmission housing. I will let others here who know more on this subject than I do say for sure, but I would assume that the 134 does not have enough metal around the cylinders to be able to bore them out to become a 172.
