I have a 641 ford with 134 engine, just completed rebuilt engine about six month ago. It was running very good. I park it in the shed to clean up the ten. It sat there for about three months.
Last wk I decided to use it for some hole digging
When I started it up it began to pop and back fire in carb. First thing first, Checked Timing ok right on, check point they were clean an set @ .025, check plugs they clean and set @ .025 So next check compression all were 100-120 next check carb to make sure it wasn't set to lean.

all help will be appreciated
Thanks Larry

heck for sticking valve.

Gas that sits too long can varnish and get gummy. Fuel stabilizers can help lengthen fuels shelf life. I"ve been told, from multiple people, that gasoline shouldn"t sit for more then about 3 months as varnishing begins. That being said, you might have to drain the tank and put fresh gas in. The carb might have to be cleaned to.

will it always backfire.. or only sometimes.

if 'always' then comp check should find it.

lastly.. check that rotor clip on the dizzy shaft.

I would bet you have a sticking valve on the intake side. I would try putting a qt. of ATF in say 2 gal of gas and run it and see if it clears up
