Our host lists the metal friction. I need to replace the friction which is under the metal disc. May need to make one out of a piece of plastic. Anybody know where I could order one?

Check with the following websites : Just 8Ns or Dennis Carpenter. Don't use rubber , it needs to be a special type of cork to work correctly . God bless , Ken

i bet a piece of rubberized cork.. or boiled leather.. or a 3pt friction disc might be made to work.

in fact. I know they will. ;)

I got mine from Messicks, CNH part. It's not expensive, but shipping is a killer unless you order some other things.

Ken,

One of the people on the forum, Old, suggested that I check with Ford New Holland Tractor dealerships.
Stopped at one today and bought two of the discs. They are cork as you said. Part number C5NN518B

(quoted from post at 16:33:10 11/14/13) That's great . Looks like you're all set . God bless, Ken

I had the same problem with a worn friction plate, causing rhe throttle to always revert back to idle. I found the friction plate at Messick's. Before I install it, I have a question:
The old friction gasket is saturated with dried grease and is stuck to the plate. I can scrape it off, but should I clean off any remaining grease on the two plates with some kind of solvent. Also, does the friction gasket need to be attached (glued) to either the top or bottom plate, or does it ride free?

When I did mine on my 660 I cleaned everything and installed the disc dry. No adhesive or lube. I tightened the castellated nut to put a fair amount of tension on the throttle lever. The friction disc is needed to balance the governor, so some tension is necessary. Just enough so the governor does not pull the throttle down. I adjusted mine to hold the throttle lever in place plus a little more. Its been working just fine for 3 years now.
