A friend of mine has a 1957 Ford 960 that had carried a 2 row mounted corn picker for many years. He found the tractor setting in a barn that was falling down talked to the owner and bought it as is for $800.00. The reason it was parked was because over the years the left axle housing where the studs bolt the axle tube to the bull gear housing had wallowed out the holes were egged shaped and had 2 broke off studs and the bull gear housing would shift under load. My friend took it to several shops and they all estimated the cost to repair it between $ 500. and $600. dollars. I suggested he should take it to Rolling Acres Tractor Shop just outside of Dycusburg Ky. So we took it there, the Old man looked at it and said it could be fixed with a little work. My friend got a call this morning to pick it up! When we got there it was setting outside. The Old Gentleman had drilled out all the old studs and retapped the housing installed larger studs and made a neat looking lock ring for the stud nuts. I thought it was going to cost a lot of money, but when my friend paid the bill it was only $ 112.00. I think the lock ring is a real interesting idea!
