running@idle oil pressure for a ford jubilee

The jubilee I have idles at 20-25 psi and when running at 1200- 1500 oil psi is 40-45. What is the correct oil pressure ?

she's showing wear.. but still has decades to go.

A GOOD healthy red tiger can generally maintain high 40's oil pressure at hot idle, and bump 60 cold throttle startup depending on oil viscosity and outside temps.

Your numbers are still fine.. that engine has just seen plenty of work

Is that cold or hot oil? It makes a difference. If those are hot numbers, you're fine. If those are cold numbers, post back some hot ones.

Hi Rich,
Oil pressure at cold start up pins the gauge at 50lbs. Probably a replacement gauge as my 2n and 8n have gauges that go to 80psi.
When opening up the engine to 1300-1500 rpm needle goes to 50 then back to 45 then up again. Probably the pressure relief valve opening@closing. Idles 20-25

On many of these old tractor at idle any thing above 10 psi is bragging numbers. If you where talking a A/C tractor 10 is high at idle but then that is a horse of a different color

Ah, sorry, I don't believe those numbers for 2 reasons: 1.) You said those numbers are the same hot or cold. Can't be. Those numbers must go down when she heats up. 2.) Even on a new Jubilee engine, those numbers are too high. I would think replace the gauge and try again.

comment is for ejensen,be happy with your oil pressure me and a friend of mine have just recently finished doing a complete overhaul of a 640 134cid engine.I tend to think the oil pressure is to high i.e.its above 60psi on start-up.after warm-up it changes with rpm also if she drops a few drops of oil on the groung keep on tractoring,as another fellow said, she marking her territoty. The alamule!!

I have a 640 that has run 50/60 pounds hot or cold for 27 years.Never say never.I have put new rod and main bearings in engines that hold steady pressure.

ejensen,
Before I purchased my jubilee, someone put a spin on filter on it. IMHO, biggie mistake. If I let mine sit for a few days and remove filter, half the oil has drained back. I've tried every filter out there. All do the same. So when I start mine after sitting for a spell, there is no oil pressure for 10-15 seconds. Depending on how long it sits.

I went to wally world and purchased 5 qts of full synthetic oil, thinking synthetic oil may provide better protection on dry starts.

Some say synthetic oil causes oil leaks. My engine was recently rebuilt, so no oil leaks.

Cold start up 40+ psi, Warm idle 20+ psi

How long does it take you to build oil pressure?
George

Take a look at the plate in the engine block next time you have the filter off.The hole in the plate should at 12 oclock.Dufus puts the plate in at 6 oclock so the oil drains out everytime the engine stops.I will NOT use a spin on filter on my tractor.

you are simply incorrect.

red tiger engines have a higher oil pressure relief cracking number than an N.

while a fresh N should top out around 45.. it's not uncommon to see 55-60 psi cold start throttle on a red tiger that is healthy.

Also not uncommon to see hot running pressures inthe 45-55 range for a healthy red tiger.

I've got about a dozen in the barn to back that up.

reminds me of my VAC. 15psi BOOK pressure is 100% normal.

when I got that VAC i thought she was sick,, but found out she was healthy!

one other point.

many of us keep a spare oil pressure gauge that we know is good, and use that as a test gauge on machines where there is any suspect with an oil pressure issue. just to a quick swap in for a test if you have one on hand... etc.

George Hello, I read your post, and I think you answered a question for me (thanks). I have a 2000 with the 4 cylinder engine that was overhauled just for I got it about 5 yrs. ago, Has great oil pressure 50-40. But it is slow to build pressure like yours. It has the spin on adapter like yours.
I went out today and took the filter off to make sure the drain hole was at the top. It was so that was ruled out. My son had a pickup doing the same thing and we found that a FRAM PH43 filter has a built in check valve that works good and fixed his problem.
By chance there was a new one in my shop and it fits my tractor with the adapter. I put it on and changed the oil. Run it to temp. and let it set for 3 hours and it started building pressure as soon as it started. I will let it set for a week and post how it worked after setting. Thanks for the input- Hope this helps-ed

My hole is at 12. Keep in mind my filter only drains half way back, even with the hole with threads that holds filter in place.

When I pull my filter, after sitting for a week, there is almost no oil dripping out of filter, unless I turn it upside down.

Oil comes from the oil pump to the outside of the filter and exits thru the center hole.Oil goes to the oil gallery from there.Theres a steel tube from the oil pump to the block that could be loose or cracked. Its been a long time but thats what I remember about the ohv oil system.

very, very common on a red tiger. when I see them with much less oil pressure.. i think oil and air fitler services were not done, and or it has a bajillion hours on it...
